It’s sounds strange to call a fast-casual salad restaurant a unicorn (a privately held startup valued at $1+ billion), but Sweetgreen has become one of the most innovative companies out there, plus their salads are great. The New York Times did a story on Sweetgreen and its 3 founders, outlining the company’s creative moves that has helped it attain a $1.6 billion valuation. The restaurant has 102 locations across the country and generates over $300 million a year in revenue. The differentiating aspect that separates Sweetgreen from other restaurants is its effort to digitize the customer experience. 1.5 million people have Sweetgreen’s dedicated app, which account for 55% of its order volume. Taking on a bigger delivery play, Sweetgreen struck a deal with Uber Eats last year. With its push for innovation, lettuce and arugala isn’t the only green Sweetgreen will be seeing.
