The Mondrian Mural project is an initiative launched by the ultra-swank Mondrian Hotel LA to infuse art into its establishment. SoCal based street artist MADSTEEZ was chosen to paint the walkway to the Mondrian’s SkyBar . The SkyBar, itself, already presents a magnificent view of LA while hosting chic clientele and the new mural should add some new energy and character to the venue.
Mark Paul Deren (aka MADSTEEZ) was born blind in his left eye, but having this setback seemed to have given him much more of a vivid and creative outlook. He states that his left eye sees a mashup of colors and if he closes his right eye, he’ll get nauseous due to the extreme explosion of hues. Maybe this “vision” is the driver behind MADSTEEZ ‘s paintings, which are large, multi-layered, and colorful. He’s gained a global following, holding solo exhibitions in NYC, LA, and Tokyo, and has even collaborated with popular brands like Nike, Red Bull, Honda, and Stussy.
The Mondrian and MADSTEEZ will be celebrating the official unveiling of the new mural on Feb 26th. RSVP here for this free event.
