Kevin Durant shocked the world when he announced that he was joining the Golden State Warriors last summer. Not since when LeBron James took his talents to South Beach did a player received so much harsh criticism for signing with a team. But then again, Durant was joining a team that eliminated his former Oklahoma City Thunder from the playoffs a few short months earlier, a team that was down 3-1 to that same Thunder team. The Warriors were one win shy from repeating as champs and now they added a generational talent like Durant? That’s quite the consolation prize.
Even with all the severe flak, Kevin Durant made the best career move he can make. He’s an employee like any of us and when we have the opportunity to join one of the best companies out there, we typically jump on that opportunity. Durant just made a move that can help elevate his legacy and talents.
Nike released a short documentary on Durant’s playoff run with the Warriors called Still KD: Through the Noise. It covers his decision to leave the Thunder, his motivation as an NBA player, and his ultimate conquest of the championship, as well as showcasing the Nike Zoom KD 10 sneakers. From Nike’s point of view, this was the best scenario for the swoosh. It’s top two endorsers (Durant and LeBron James) squaring off in the NBA Finals, with intriguing storylines on both sides. Best of all, the battle should continue for another year.
