Recently, renowned street artist Futura painted on the historic Bowery Graffiti Wall in New York City. The Bowery Mural is  located on the corner of Houston Street and the Bowery, and has always featured large scale pieces from some of the most recognized street artists from around the world. Futura adds his name to the impressive list, which includes OSGEMEOS, Shepard Fairey, and RETNA.

Futura is a true blue New Yorker who started painting on subway cars back in the 70s, and is now recognized as one of the more prominent graffiti artists of all time. He’s exhibited in galleries all over the world, published a book, and collaborated with a variety of big name brands. His latest project with the Bowery Mural is a huge deal to him:

“When I was contacted to paint the Houston/Bowery wall, my first thought was ‘OH MY GOD!’ ‘Then I started thinking about colors and content and exposure. LOCATION. LOCATION. LOCATION. It is an absolute honor to join the list of creative individuals who have previously worked on this wall and moved through such historic time and space. My mural is inspired by and in loving memory of Mr. Tony Goldman, a true friend and supporter for many years.” – Futura

If you’re in the NYC area, stop by Futura’s mural. If you’re not, you can check out these great photos by SDJ for The Hundreds.
